The report said BenQBenQ Middle East overtook EpsonEpson to top the list during the third quarter of 2008, with 6,166 units and with a market share of 16 per cent, followed by EpsonEpson with 5,393 units and a 14 per cent share and Toshiba with 3,552 units and a 9.21 market share.

"EpsonEpson was the leader in the UAE with 3,353 units sold in the third quarter of 2007 and with a market share of 23.85 per cent, followed by BenQBenQ with 1,347 units and with 9.58 per cent market share and Sony with 1,304 units and 9.28 market share," the DTC report said.

In Saudi Arabia, total shipments fell 6.85 per cent to 12,752 units in the third quarter of 2008 compared to 13,689 in the third quarter of 2007.

BenQBenQ was the leader in Saudi Arabia with 1,883 units and with 14.77 per cent market share, closely followed by NEC with 1,831 units and with 14.36 per cent market share and Optoma with 1,677 units and with 13.15 market share.

BenQBenQ also stands at number one in the worldwide DLP projector market as per current DTC rankings.

"Regional growth varied significantly by country, but it is clearly evident that the launch of latest Short Throw technology projectors, much ahead of the competitors in third quarter, is the major factor behind our impressive performance and has enhanced our market presence and market share," said Manish Bakshi, General Manager, BenQBenQ Middle East and Africa. Losers were Acer, Sharp, Hitachi, LG, 3M and Panasonic.
